Just a quick shout out to Erik and Kristy for having their bid accepted on, what I hear is, a beautiful condo in Franklin, MA. They are due to be closing on the purchase in late January or early February. Good luck and congratulations!!
Also, congrats to "Yee Haw" for their second consecutive win in
the annual Ginger Bread House making contest. They were almost eliminated from the competition for off site assembly and rumored use of a hot glue gun. However, they're a bunch of whiners, so we let it go! They won with 40% of the vote; YEE HAW!! Good luck next year. You have the option to maintain the same team...

Hannah's 10th Birthday

Hannah entered "double digits" on December 3. We celebrated Saturday with our third annual gingerbread house making contest. See pictures and voting polls on the lower right hand side of the website for the family and go to http://havenhannah.blogspot.com/ to vote on the houses made by Hannah and her friends. As usual the Flaherty house was filled with chaos and fun on Saturday. The girls who stayed over did their best to pull an "all nighter" and I think some were successful! Those who weren't were drawn on with marker by the other girls.

In sports news, Tommy had a "hat trick" during his indoor soccer game this past Monday. Maegan followed last weeks "hat trick" with SIX goals in her Wednesday morning pre-school soccer league. And, Hannah played a great Futsol game with Explosion Black today scoring one goal, making lots of nice passes and playing an almost perfect first half in goal. It was a good week!

Finally, don't think you've been left of this year's Christmas card list. We are gearing up for the holidays, but have decided to forgo sending cards this year and instead make a donation to our Church's "Grand Annual Fund." It's a difficult economic time for everyone, including the church.
Enjoy your holiday season & God bless!

Explosion FC Futsol 2008/2009 Schedule

Sun Dec 7 NESA FC v. Explosion FC Black score: 2-2
Sun-Dec 14 Darby v Explosion FC Black score: 0-4 Explosion loss

Sun-Feb 22 Explosion FC Black v Scorpions Black 12:00

Tennative Schedule, please know that it can change at any time. All games are played at the Mansfield Sports Complex. The schedule is not finalized but the link can be found on the right under our "Sports Links." Once you click on the link select "Schedule" from the options on the left and then click on the date of interest in the calendar. A schedule will appear. You are looking for Explosion Black not Explosion Orange, (although we typically wear orange; go figure!).

Maegan's Basketball 2008/2009 Schedule

Josh's Care Package Party

Today we hosted a party to coordinate a care package to be sent to Josh in Iraq. Aimee had the perfect idea of using strips of red & green construction paper to write messages on, that could then be assembled into a Christmas paper chain to decorate Josh's room. My personal favorite was "If you think I'm cute, you should meet my COUSINS" and "Knock, Knock, whose there? Iraq. Iraq who? I "raqed" my tank!" Unfortunately, I was so busy harassing people with our new video camera, that I didn't get any good still shots to post. However, Paul and I are working on editing the video and will try to post that to the site soon. Stay tuned!
Also this week, Murphy was neutered. Hence, the fashionable cone. And, Paul and I joined Facebook, and our world has not been the same sense. I can not believe the time we have invested into that site. However, I am truly happy that I have gotten in touch with some old and dear friends, as has Paul, and I am REALLY looking forward to having lunch with my freshman year roommate, Audra. As much time as we have "wasted" poking around Facebook, to reconnect with people who have left footprints on our heart is more valuable than any amount of time or money. Here's to wishing everyone a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING. We are so thankful for our friends, family and good fortune. God bless.
PS - Vote for team names for our upcoming Ginger Bread House contest...

Explosion Outdoor Season Concludes

The Fall Explosion FC season ended today with two victorious make up games against the Scorpions C and D teams. Explosion FC held a fall record of 8-1-0. Hannah has had a blast playing with the club and making friends from neighboring towns. She particularly enjoys her carpool rides with the Foxboro girls. We have been thoroughly impressed with the caliber of play from the girls, the class and sportsmanship with which they carry themselves and the quality coaching that is devoted to them by their three coaches. We are looking forward to the indoor season. All indoor games will be at the Mansfield Sports Complex. The first indoor game will be 12/7, time TBD.

We also shared a festive evening at Heather and Andy's house this weekend celebrating Andy's 30th Birthday. It was a really good time and we enjoyed the QT with family. Happy Birthday Andy!

Sun Chronicle

I just thought that everyone who voted for my sister Kaitlin as MVP and who knows our family, might enjoy this article that ran in the local paper; The Sun Chronicle. Click the link and check it out. We are so blessed with a loving supportive family that is always here when you need them. I too have realized the selfless generosity of my family and I don't know where I would be without their support of my husband, my children and myself.

Wrentham WRottweilers Season Ends...

We had a nice visit with Uncle Ian, Auntie Jessie and Chaselyn today. They came to watch Hannah's final Wrentham Travel game for the fall season. The WRottweilers ended the season victorious 4-0 vs. Arlington to finish third in Division 1 Bays. The season record was 5-4-1. Hannah put a little extra hustle out on the field just for her Aunt, Uncle and cousin and rounded out the season with a strong game. Hannah will continue her soccer this winter indoors with Explosion FC and at Fore Kicks with the Wrentham WRockstars. Below is a picture of Hannah on the sidelines today with Amanda Loewen and Hannah Favreau.

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween! First, thank you to everyone who took the time to vote for Kaitlin for Bridgewater MVP. We really rallied today. If you haven't voted, go to the link on the lower right of this site under "Links to Sites We Love," click on "Bridgewater State" and cast your vote for Kaitlin Lamothe.

Second, ok, it's official, but I do think there was some double dipping in the voting!! Maegan's team is the official winner of the pumpkin carving contest with 39% of the votes, Tommy's team came in second and Hannah and Grayson were tied for third.
We had a wonderful Halloween. Coach Greenberg did a fabulous job directing a "trick or treating" extravaganza through one of the largest neighborhoods in Wrentham. He took on the "no girl left behind" militant approach. There were few houses missed and no one was lost! See the picture of Coach with his "Wrock Stars" above.

Tommy met up with some of his Pal's and Cheryl Dittrich stole him away for the evening. In a couple of years he may have been unwilling to leave a pack of a dozen older girls, but this year he was thrilled to take off with his buddies. See the picture of his motley crew below.

Grayson LOVED Halloween. I mean, what's not to love! Everywhere you go, they just give you candy! He was actually still pointing at houses and wanting to continue the journey after two hours of pounding the pavement. The lion costume is compliments of the Tupper family. Thank you!

Maegan was "spent" by the end of the evening and was actually asking to go home. I'm not sure Murphy enjoyed the chaos. However, all in all, it was one of the best Halloweens so far, but we missed our usual trick or treat buddies, the Burke family.

Happy Halloween everyone!

Vote for your favorite Costume

Take a minute to vote for your favorite Halloween costume... Scroll to the bottom to take the poll.
No pics of Addisyn and Grayson together this year because Addisyn is apparently afraid of lions...

Congratulations Hannah

Congratulations to Hannah for taking 2nd place in the "vehicles" category in the fourth grade Wrentham Elementary Pumpkin decorating contest with "Cinderella's Coach."
Paul and Hannah worked super hard on the pumpkin. How G.I. Joe the '80's rock star got a hold of the reins, we'll never know. You have to wonder if they ever made it to the ball!! Good work Hannah and Daddy!

Congratulations Kaitlin

My sister Kaitlin is currently studying at Bridgewater State College to become a teacher. She started her college career at Syracuse where she played on the soccer team there. She has continued her soccer career at Bridgewater and has been named ECAC Offensive Player of the Week more than once, the MASCAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week multiple times, she also ranks in the top ten nationally for D3 in points and goals scored, and today we learned she has been named to the ESPN All-Academic Team!! Congratulations Kaitlin!

More Flaherty family fun...(& a little "PG" fun)!

Saturday 10/25, we attended the Fruci/Sebio annual Halloween party. It's great that there are so many fun people to let loose and just be silly with for an evening. And, an opportunity to dance is always overdue and we made the most of it. Paul went as our investments, (which are down the toilette). Apparently so are Craig Mello the convict's investments... Although the husbands wore the orange jump suits, based on the behavior of those three crazy cops, (Meg Mello, Kim Burke and Diane Guenther), I'm not sure who the real trouble makers are!
Rebecca and Kevin win for originality, (not officially - but in my book), with the hand made owl and Tootsie Pop. Kevin got far too much enjoyment out of the inhibition of being a great big fat man/owl though! It was a good time all around and there are too many fun pictures to post them all!

On Sunday October, 26th we spent the day with the Flaherty family celebrating the baptism of Connor Jonathan Flaherty. He is a beautiful, sweet little baby and the day was a perfect fall day. We enjoyed the time with siblings and cousins.

Tommy also played his final Football game today. The team finished the season victorious against Ashland/Hopkinton 7-2. Tommy got some time at QB, which although he loves, the responsibility makes him very nervous! He is sad to see the season end. Not only did he love playing football, he really enjoyed his teammates. It has been a true pleasure, as a parent, to watch Tommy doing something that he really loves. During the season he earned the nickname "Tank," which he is very proud of. The overall record of Mites 1 was 4-3-1. KAKP!!!

Welcome to the Flaherty Family website!

I got the idea from a couple friends who are blogging about pregnancies and life in Hong Kong... that a Flaherty Family website would be a great organizational and communicating tool for our family and friends. My intent is to organize all of the sports links to schedules, (most of which are available on the right side of this blog already). I also hope to post upcoming events, pictures and let you know what we have going on in our lives. The kids, Paul and I will all add blogs and content to the site. I hope you find the site helpful and fun.

Sunday 10/19 we had our second annual pumpkin carving contest with optional costume for the participants. The Lacottbarnvaughn crew, as I have dubbed them, were all present along with the Reiner family. We had a blast. I think the consensus, (according to Rebecca who you must note was part of said team), Maegan's team was the contest winner with the ghost in the window carving. Maegan's team was made up of Kristy, Rebecca, Maegan & Logan. They left with bragging rights and were absolutely not allowed to take their pumpkin! But let's make it official. Vote in my "best pumpkin" poll below. Happy Haunting!
Love to all,
Carolyn
