Kid quote of the week x2

Kid quote of the week...

The following two quotes come from Maegan and were said to her Kindergarten teacher:

" I don't know anything about Christmas because my family ONLY celebrates Kwanzaa."

"I have been to the doctor's many, many, times for this and I have short term memory loss so I can't remember your directions."

FYI - Kwanzaa begins 12/26... :)

Happy Halloween

Another fantastic Halloween "coached" by our fearless leader "Mr. Beanberg" with some help from the very loud and enthusiastic Mr. Flaherty who, while pumping his fist in the air, repeatedly rejoiced that we "crushed this neighborhood!!" The kids have enough candy to rot the teeth out of a small nation and all are exhausted. Some may not sleep well after Uncle Marcus' stunt with the clown mask - but hey, what is family for? Auntie Carolyn was good for a little retribution on the little dragon with her vampire teeth. Here's to another great year!

Maegan's Birthday

Mom and the girls had a "date" at the American Girl store in Natick this weekend. Maegan got her first AG doll; Ivy. As she browsed the store, she came up with some additional items to add to her wish list.

The girls got their dolls ears pierced and hair done; it was quite an interesting outing & they had a blast. Check out the salon for dolls:

Maegan's wish list has been updated and moved to the bottom of the website. We will be adding Christmas wish lists for all the kids once they write them up.

Thank you to all of you who helped make Maegan's birthday surprise party a success. Maegan is a very lucky girl. I know she felt special and loved. A special thanks to all of my sisters for helping make the house a princess dreamland. I couldn't have gotten the house decorated that quickly without you. Also, to Paul for dragging Maegan all around town distracting her and to Mom and Dad for attempting to get Hannah to her soccer game, (even though it was cancelled you were still ready, willing and on your way to stand out in the rain and support her :).

11 Rules for life by Bill Gates:

1. Life is not fair - get used to it (I say this constantly to my children and my Mom said it to me:)
2. The world won't care about your self esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
3. You will not make $60,000 a year right out of school. You won't be a vp with a car phone until you earn both, (except that nearly every child seems to have the cell phone already and I doubt they've earned it or even pay for it...)
4. If you think your teacher is tough, wait until you get a boss.
5. Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for flipping burgers; they called it opportunity.
6. If you mess up, it's not your parents fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.
7. Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you think you are. So, before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.
8. Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT....
9. Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.
10. Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop to go to jobs. (Am I sensing a reference to "Friends" which probably means this was meant for people my age when first spoken at a HS graduation - I didn't have a cell phone :)
11. Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

Wonder how the president would break this one down. Life isn't fair President Obama and America was built on capitalism not socialism...

Maegan's Fall Soccer Schedule

Come watch Paul coach and Maegan play soccer at the Rice complex on the below dates and fields! Check the website at http://www.wys.org/ for cancellations or changes. Paul and Maegan are team 4...

10/10 10:30 am Field D2 - Maegan scored 4 goals!! However, though no official score was kept, I think "Tootsies," (that recruited "granola" all the way from Ohio :) was the unofficial victor...
10/17 9am Field D2 According to coach Flaherty Maegan scored 10 goals this week, including a beautiful left footed goal. Of course there was another "ringer" on the other team; leaving a pretty even playing field all around :)
10/24 9am Field D2 - six goals today for miss Maegan and Coach Flaherty says he's most impressed that she dribbles the ball up the field using both feet. Coach Flaherty is also impressed by what a nice group of girls he has on his team!
10/31 10:30am Field D2 - Coach Flaherty says the girls just "weren't into soccer" today. Maegan scored 1 goal. Although the girls were outplayed, Coach feels that his team continually out classes their opponents with sportsmanship, manners and good listening skills. Go Pizza!
11/7 10:30am Field D1 - Hat trick for miss Maegan today but the opposing team played some awesome soccer! Go Pizza!!
11/14 10:30am Field D1

See you at the fields :)

This year was a special first day of school as Maegan started kindergarten. She already made a special new friend, Gina Brown; and had a play date with her set up by the end of the orientation! Maegan loved going on the bus and had a wonderful first week. Hannah and Tommy arrived home happy and excited every day. Good luck to all the teachers and children starting a new school year! Enjoy the ride...

KP Mites 1 Fall 2009 Schedule

Monday 9/7/09 vs. Holliston 4:30pm @ Home: KP Victory 25-14
Touchdowns scored by Sammy, Andrew D, Joe and Tommy (Tommy also scored an extra point)
Sunday 9/13/09 vs. Hyde Park 9am (Away): KP Victory 19-7
2 Touchdowns for Andrew D and a touchdown pass completed from Andrew to Joe on the half back option pass. Tommy scored one extra point and threw a touchdown pass to Andrew D. Both Defense and Offense played excellent games. Nice job boys!
Sunday 9/20/09 vs. Franklin 3pm @ Home - KP Victory 14-7
2 Touchdowns for Andrew D. and an extra point, Dan Mason with an extra point and props to Jarrod Rosa for an AWESOME interception and to CJ Mello for playing hard even w/ a case of pneumonia - they make those Mello's tough! Game well played boys by offense & defense! Keep it up!
Saturday 9/26/09 vs. Norfolk 1pm@ Home - KP Victory 32-6
Touchdowns: Sammy Sesay, Andrew D, Sean Manning and Tommy Flaherty X2 (one was an awesome defensive strip when the Norfolk runner was stacked up in the pile. He took the strip 50 yards), . Extra points: Dan Mason & Collin Grahm. AWESOME interception by Sean Manning that would have been another KP TD if not for the mercy rule that was invoked and ended the game. Keep it up boys!
Sunday 10/4/09 vs. Apponnequet 9am @ TBD - KP Victory 20-0
Touchdowns: Dan Mason, Joe Fruci x2 (one receiving, see Andrew), Extra points: Daniel Cobb & Sammy Seasay. Also, Andrew D. threw a TD pass and Hunter LaFlamme was a defensive force, serving up two QB sacks. WOW boys, what a season!
Sunday 10/11/09 vs. Wareham 4:30pm - KP Victory 19-6
Tommy made a great fumble recovery that he ran in 50 yards for a terrific touchdown. Tommy also had a great pass interception on defense during a goal line stand. Andrew D. made two dazzling long touchdown runs for 30 and 65 and ran it in for an extra point. Sean Manning wrecked the QB causing the fumble Tommy picked up & had a nice "floating run" (it was like his feet never touched the ground). CJ Mello made some huge defensive plays stuffing a reverse and Bricks was again a force on defense all around and on the goal line. All the boys played a great game. Also, Coach Flaherty thanks Joe Fruci for being a true example of a team player and always doing what he's asked without question. 6-0 WOW!!
Sat. 10/17/09 vs. Norfolk 12:30pm @ Home - Tough loss, 19-7. Although the game was closer than the score indicates, it came down to turnovers. KP fumbled in the 4th qrt down 13-7 and when they got the ball back again it was 19-7 with too little time left on the clock. Paul wishes he called a different play other than the one that resulted in the fumble. The boys were bummed about their first loss of the season; the only consolation is that Norfolk M1 is 7-0. So at least they were competitive against another solid (albeit stacked) team. Congrats to Sean Manning for his TD and Tommy for the extra point. You put us on the board boys.
Sat. 10/24 6:30pm vs. Taunton @ Taunton H.S. - KP 32, Taunton 7 and this game was not as close as the score indicates. It was 19-0 at half and 26-0 midway thru the 3rd quarter. League rules required us to run a basic offense for most of the rest of the game. The game got off to a rough start as KP fumbled on their first possesion. However KP's defense responded with an interception for a TD by Daniel Cobb. Sean Manning had the next TD for KP on offense followed by a 70+ yard TD run by Andrew D to close out the half. The extra point went to Joe Fruci on a quick pass to the corner from Tommy. The defensive held tough all evening and KP's next offensive possession ended with Daniel Cobb's first rushing TD of the season. The extra point was completed by a high stepping, untouched Connor Keegan on a 42 dive. Taunton scored a TD against our third string D late in the game, which fortunately allowed KP to run a "real" offense. With time running down in the game, Andrew D took his third carry of the evening 60+ yards (3 carries for 130+ yards and 1 TD in the game for Andrew) and could have scored except he was instructed to run out of bounds at the 5, which he did. That set up Colin Graham's first TD of the season to close out the game.
All in all, great season by the boys, a 7-1 record, a potent offense and a stingy D contributed to the success. All the boys got better as the season went on and last night's victory was a culmination of all their hard work.

Flaherty Family Annual Picnic at Nana Bananas

Summer has been very busy and we've had little time to blog about our adventures. However, we wanted to send out a special thanks to Nana Banana for another wonderful annual picnic and share some special photos. Nana turns 80 this coming winter and it was wonderful to share a pre-birthday surprise celebration with her as well. Happy almost 80th Nana Banana...

Berkshires 2009

Thank you to Anna and Jim Tupper and all of their crew, (Papa duck Justin, Julia and Tina), for another wonderful weekend at their log cabin in the Berkshires. We thoroughly enjoyed the time on the lake, the fishing (especially Tommy), and the campfire stories. Though, there may be Tuppers and Flaherty's having nightmares for years to come about the Red Lady with bad teeth! Murphy apologizes to Daisy for his poor behavior and plans to send over a treat! Oh, and Justin... Mr. Flaherty is practicing up for next year's rope swing competition - watch out!!

Happy be-lated Father's Day

As we emptied the back packs to start a new year, we found a survey that Maegan had taken for father's day. This is what she had to say about Paul:

What is your father's name? Paul
How old is he? How many as my Mom
How tall is he? 6 feet
How much does he weigh? 10 lbs
What color is his hair? brown
What does he do around the house? Give us snacks
What is his favorite drink? Milk
What is his favorite food? hot dogs
What is his favorite T.V. show? Grown up TV
Where does he work? works for computers
Where does he like to go? out for ice cream
What is his favorite hobby? push me on the swings

I am lucky to have both the best father I could have ever imagined and the best father to my children that I could ever want. Thank you Dad for all you have done for me and thank you Paul for all the coaching you do and the love you give and the hard work you do to support our family financially and emotionally. I love you Dad and Paul! Happy be-lated Father's day!

Kid Quote of the Week

Apparently Tommy was pondering what "rap" would mean if it was an acronym. Last night he asked me, "Mom, is 'rap' an abbreviation?" I wasn't sure. So, he responded, "I was thinking that if it was, it would mean 'retards attempting poetry.'"

Beware, if you are easily offended by the politically incorrect; than stay away from all children.

Also, Tommy has a play-off baseball game today at 5:30 at the Rice FIELD. Watch for more game postings under our "Upcoming Events and Activities" section on the right hand side of our site.

Correction: The game will be played at RICE FIELD, NOT Rice COMPLEX!

Congratulations...

Congratulations to Tommy and the Dodgers who were playing when the world record longest baseball game was made in Wrentham this weekend. All of Wrentham is very proud. See the links to the right on the site for news coverage. Relatives from accross the country heard coverage of the event and we even had our cousins in Iraq on a tour of duty listening to the game!

Donations are being accepted until 6/30 and Tommy's lunch with Curt Schilling will occurr in July; http://longestbaseballgame.org/profiles/?player=PaulThomas .
Also a special congratulations to Maegan for a fantastic performance at her dance recital this week. A spectator was quoted as saying of Maegan, "She has a natural grace!" Of course, that spectator was her grammy!! She also received a three year award from the dance company and was thrilled to wear the medal around her neck. Thanks to all those who attended and cheered her on!

Finally, congratulations to Rebecca and Kevin on their first born... Brennan Lacotter ;) And what a beautiful baby he is!

Be-lated Happy Mother's Day

I wanted to share with all of the mom's in my life the answers Maegan gave about me on a Mother's day survey. It's always interesting & sometimes humbling to see yourself through your child's eyes:

What is your mother's name: Carolyn
How old is she? 10
How tall is she? 6 feet
How much does she weigh? A lot
What color is her hair? brown
What does she do around the house? Play with us (I liked this answer :)
What is her favorite drink? Milk (Dodged a bullet on this one...)
What is her favorite thing to eat? lasagna
What is her favorite TV show? Grown up stuff
What does she cook? macaroni and cheese
Where does she like to go? Stop & Shop
What is her favorite hobby? go on dates

In the spirit of our day here are the top ten things I never thought I'd do before I was a mom...

10. Wear a shirt with spit up on it in public
9. Willingly put my hands in a public toilette
8. Wipe another person's nose with my clothing
7. Hide candy from children so that I could have it
6. Drive a mini van & LOVE it
5. Shower with four people at the same time
4. Bang my head against a wall; literally...
3. Catch throw up in my hands
2. Eat scraps off someone else's plate
1. Say the words, "Don't lick your sister's bum!"

I hope you all had a wonderful mother's day!

Be Green by Hannah Flaherty

Be Green:
Come on everybody, let's be green!
Let's all work together to keep this world clean.
It's not a color but a way to be.
I'll plant a flower, he'll plant a tree;
Also, we need to find a way to stop pollution.
Hey, over here, I've got a solution!
We can ride our bike to school
and all the other places we think are cool.
We all can pick the garbage we found
in the streets, our home and all around.
To keep our land green and our skies blue,
here is what you have to do:
Make a promise and keep it true.
Do what I said everyday
and the earth we love will be here to stay! - By Hannah Flaherty
Happy St. Patrick's day! Recycle!

KID QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

Maegan: Grammy, will you tie my shoes
Grammy: sure
Maegan (after the shoe is tied): I got dirty socks, but it's ok because I turned them inside out, so I can wear them again...

Does this remind anyone of a certain adorable Grandpoo??

Kid Quote of the Week...

While listening to "Holler Back" by Gwen Stefani...

Tommy: Mom I used to think it said "There ain't no hall for fat girls"
Mom: laughing so hard there is no response
Tommy: Yeah, because I thought that's why they went around the track three times

Mom: still laughing too hard to speak...

As to family achievements, the fourth Frosty was erected this weekend by Paul and the kids. The kids have dubbed this one Frosty Jed. Unfortunately, the beautiful "warm" weather has slimmed Jed to an unrecognizable form already! There is always next year for Frosty Ed...

Finally, congratulations to Murphy! They allowed him to "walk" with his graduating class of puppies. However, he will be required to do a little "summer school" to actually receive his diploma...

Kid Quote of the week

Maegan: Who sings this song?
Mom: Kid Rock
Maegan: Why do they call him Kid Rock?
Mom: I really don't know
Maegan: Is he a like a big kid?
Mom: No, he's a grown man
Maegan: Well, then they should call him Man Rock!

Tax Season Has Arrived

While poking around the IRS website I found an area that might be of use to some of you who prepare your own tax return. Below is the link. I hope you all get a big fat refund, or at a minimum do not get gauged. I wonder what the next four years have in store for us...

For tax law changes that will impact your 2008 tax return:

Congratulations Tommy

Tommy is having a really great week this week. His indoor soccer team, the Wrumblers, lead by Coach Foxx has made the playoffs and will be playing a 25 minute game at 4:30pm at Fore Kicks on Monday 1/19/09. If, or shall I say when (in the words of Coach Foxx), they emerge victorious they will likely meet the rival Wrentham team for a second chance at bragging rites in school! The game to "win it all" will follow immediately at 5pm and will be a full game.

Tommy was also nominated by Judy Haughey, and invited to participate in the National Young Leaders Program held in Boston this Summer. Mrs. Haughey chose Tommy as an "outstanding student with leadership ability." Quite frankly, I couldn't be any prouder, (even though attendance will require me opening my wallet in a substantial amount - but it's a privilege even to be nominated, right??).

Congratulations to Tommy! Keep up the good work!
